Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Today is the first day of the new year, but it’s also the first of the month, so you know what that means? It’s time to deep condition my hair. This year alongside other beauty goals that I will mention later, I decided to start growing out my hair. I’m also looking for that perfect combination of shampoos, conditioner, and styling products which means I’ll be testing and reviewing products all year long.
I cut off my hair June of last year. After having a baby, I was experiencing postnatal shedding. I didn’t have any bald spots nor was my hair coming out in chunks, but it was definitely thinning around my edges (hairline). I felt that the constant tugging on my tresses while washing and combing out my hair would do more damage, so I decided to cut my hair and wait until the problem was resolved to resume growing it back.
I deep condition my hair the first of every month. For the months that I put heat on my hair (which I rarely do), I will also deep condition my hair before going back to my natural curly state. My hair had a lot of build up from the past few weeks, so I washed my hair with a clarifying shampoo before deep conditioning. Being that I’m on the search for the perfect product combination I decided to start off this year trying something new. I’m going to start with the inexpensive options first and work my way up to the salon priced items.
For the clarifying shampoo, I decided to use the Sauve daily clarifying shampoo that I picked up at Walmart for a whopping $ 0.94! To my surprise, it left my hair and scalp feeling so clean. It has a nice smell, lathers up nicely, and really worked. As for deep conditioner, I chose to use the EDEN BodyWorks coconut shea natural hair masque. On my freshly washed hair, I applied the masque and placed a shower cap on my hair for fifteen minutes like the instruction says, then rinsed with lukewarm water. My initial reaction to the hair masque was that it was heavy, but after air drying my hair, my curls were both soft and defined. My curls were POPPING!!!!!
Due to the rain today, I was unable to straighten my hair for my initial length check. I will post a picture later this month. I think I’m going to update my length check every few months. There isn’t a goal length in mind yet, but as soon as I decide what that will be, I will let you all know. The only vitamin I plan to take are my prenatals since I’m currently still breastfeeding. Look out for a later post in regards to my hair routine.
My other beauty goals for 2017:
- Get down to my goal weight ( another post for another day).
- Begin a skincare regimen, your girl is pushing 30.
- Take better care of my nails, both hands and feet.
- Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!!!
Are you starting a hair journey? Maybe you have some beauty goals you would like to share? I would love to hear about them in the comments. Feel free to also send me products suggestions to review and try!
…til next time.
